The naturally pure tea tree oil (botan. name: Melaleuca alternifolia) from controlled organic cultivation is distilled from the leaves of the Australian tea tree using steam. The colorless to slightly yellow, clear liquid is often used for dandruff, blemished skin, and acne in shampoos, hand and body creams due to its antiseptic, bactericidal, and fungicidal effects. Thanks to its spectrum of activity, it also contributes to the preservation of the formulation. However, it should be noted that about 3% of the population is allergic to tea tree oil. The very herbaceous scent of tea tree oil, strongly reminiscent of medicine, combines well with lavender, rosemary, or citrus notes. In fragrance compositions, it takes the role of heart and/or top note.
