Sage oil (botan. name: Salvia officinalis) is obtained by steam distillation from the flowering herb of sage. The herbaceous, spicy scent of the natural essential oil is very refreshing and harmonizes well with lavender, rosemary, and citrus notes. Sage oil, valued for its antimicrobial and antiviral properties, is used in shampoos, after-shaves, and deodorants. It is considered to be well tolerated by the skin. However, sage oil is not suitable for internal use, during pregnancy and in children! The high content of thujone can cause severe cramps and dizziness.
