Patchouli (botanical name: Pogostenum Cablin) is a perennial shrub that occurs mainly in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from its dried leaves. The natural patchouli oil is viscous and has a very intense scent. The fragrance, which can be described as spicy-tart and earthy-modish, can be combined well with lavender, woody and floral notes as a base note. Patchouli oil should be dosed carefully.
