Açaí is a palm species whose fruits and palm hearts are used as food and cultivated for this purpose in Brazil. The freeze-dried, powdered açaí fruits are gently extracted, sterile filtered, and processed in glycerin. Its very high antioxidant effect is due to the extraordinarily high content of anthocyanins - these are water-soluble plant pigments belonging to the flavonoid family. In açaí berries, about 10 - 30 times more of these anthocyanins are found than in red grapes. In addition, the deep red extract is rich in minerals and water-soluble vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and vitamin C. The high antioxidant power, especially the ability to scavenge free radicals, recommends the açaí extract for anti-aging concepts, but also for irritated, inflamed skin conditions.
